When Daily Audio Bible creator Brian Hardin had the idea to create a collection of the entire bible, each verse read by a different person, we immediately recognized it’s potential. Rightly named Global Bible Read, the idea of people from all around the world coming together to read the bible would not only provide a new experience to the reader, but also the listener.
Designing the User Interface & User Experience
When we were coming up with the idea for the user interface and experience, we first had to break down process that the user would walk through in order to systematically collect the audio samples.

The wireframes of steps outlined on the front page.

Each step was clearly titled and the user was always aware of their progress.
There were 4 steps:
1 Record your own verse
The user would need to either use the web cam on their computer, phone, or tablet to record themselves reading the outlined verse they chose. There are a few guidelines and reminders along with the video feed to help them get the best quality.
2 Review and approve another person’s verse
This next step was crucial to the project being complete with a short deadline. The user had to view and rate someone else’s video. If the quality of another video is bad or any big mistakes were made, the user would flag the video which would alert our client who was the final judge of quality.
3 Edit your recording
The user would then edit their own video. There are on-screen options for editing your video like rotating the video and cropping the beginning or end.
4 Submit your recording
The final step is video submission. The recorded and edited video is automatically saved to your account as you fill out the required information. The submission also sent the user an email with their username and password for future viewing and joining the online bible community.

The site’s main focus was clear which helped the hierarchy fall perfectly into place.
Once the process was laid out, we decided to base the entire site around these 4 steps and keep the content and pages very simple. Similar to an online checkout experience.
When we started the project, the logo and part of the branding were already established. Our goal was to provide simple but striking visuals and iconography that would keep the user engaged and moving forward until the final call to action.

The progress bar allowed the user to easily identify which step they were on and how far they have to go.
The use of bold headings and clear page titles, as well as a highlighted timeline, provided user comfort and reassurance that they were correctly completing the necessary steps.

The end result was thousands of great videos of people all over the world reading the Bible together.
A successful international project
In the end, we were very pleased with the results of Global Bible Read. Thousands of readers from around the world quickly joined together to read bible verses and share them in this collective project. Light Up the Dark is truly grateful to have had the opportunity to make Bible history!
