The Nibble Nook brand was a really fun project for LUTD. We had a head chef, starting a business from the ground up, who asked for our help to see his dream come true. Chef John Boydston, from Kansas City, wanted to open a baking and learning center for people of all ages. He wanted to focus the beginning stages on children and then gradually grow his client base and capabilities.
We were excited to be a part of this project from the beginning stages of branding and interior decorating, all the way through to his grand opening and first parties.
The logo
The Nibble Nook was a name that Chef John was really enthusiastic about. The logo needed to be very flexible though. The immediate application over signage, tools, chefs coats & hats, and even baking stencils, meant that this logo not only needed to match the look and feel of a bakery and stand the test of time, but it also needed to be multifaceted. Our solution was to create a logo design that could be used as 1 piece, or multiple, depending on the needs.
The simple NN logo is a beautiful simplification that can be used with embroidery and stamping. The rolling pin can be used for product design or tools. And the full logo can be used for signage or advertisement. This solution allows for a fresh and unique take on the logo each time you see it.
Color Palette & Type
The color palette for the Nibble Nook presented itself during the early stages of the project. When Chef John’s business plan called for marketing to different age groups and appealing equally to them all, the answer to the color schemes became clear. Our solution was to have a primary color palette of simple black & white. This allowed us to pick a main accent color for each age group to express itself.
The typefaces chosen for this brand were Sentinel and Gotham. We wanted the option of serif and sans serif without either gaining too much attention. The hand drawn typeface in the logo is the primary creative tool when it comes to type.
Results
In the end, The Nibble Nook opened their doors to groups of eager families and birthday parties. Kids of all ages came to enjoy learning how to bake tasty cupcakes from scratch and decorate chocolates like a professional pastry chef. The kids loved the hands-on experience and the parents loved seeing their kids so engaged and excited.
